Welcome to the first post on the Swachhta Gyan blog. In this series, we will delve into the science and data behind the standards we promote.
The Confidence Gap
Most of us judge a kitchen’s cleanliness by what we can see. Are the counters wiped? Are the floors swept? While important, this is only the surface level. True purity—the kind that ensures health and safety—is often invisible.
This is the “Confidence Gap” we aim to close.
What is Microbial Contamination?
Microbial contamination refers to the non-intended or accidental introduction of microbes such as bacteria, yeast, mould, fungi, virus, prions, protozoa or their toxins and by-products.
Here are the key areas we investigate during a Swachh Certified™ audit:
- Surface Hygiene: We use ATP testing to measure the amount of living organisms on a surface in seconds.
- Cross-Contamination: We analyze kitchen workflows to ensure raw and cooked foods are handled on separate, color-coded surfaces.
- Water Purity: Water used for washing and cooking is tested for common contaminants.
Our goal is to empower both consumers and businesses with the knowledge to look beyond the visible and verify what is truly pure.
